Minimum requirements to run OPENFREEDOM

OPENFREEDOM weighs less than a megabyte and runs on any recent computer. The requirements below are the minimum for smooth use: local AI models need more resources (see notes).

🐧 Linux

  • Distribution modern (64-bit) x86_64 or ARM64 — any up-to-date distro
  • RAM 4 GB minimum 8 GB recommended for smooth use
  • Disk 1 GB free the software weighs less than 1 MB; space is for data and models
  • GPU optional recommended only if you want local models (e.g. Ollama)
  • Internet needed for cloud models chat can also use local models offline

🍎 macOS

  • Version recent (64-bit) Apple Silicon or Intel — macOS 12 or later
  • RAM 4 GB minimum 8 GB recommended for smooth use
  • Disk 1 GB free the software weighs less than 1 MB; space is for data and models
  • GPU integrated is fine Apple Silicon excels with local models
  • Internet needed for cloud models chat can also use local models offline
